Greek Theatre

Greek Theatre was originated in Classical Athens where all the original plays were produced. Greek theatre was made  around 220 BC and 550 BC and is still being used today. 3 genres was created there which was; Tragedy, Comedy and Satyr play. Satyr play is tragedy and comedy combined.

In Greek Theatre a chorus was just as important as the main characters in the play. They gave off that extra feel to the plays and made up the atmosphere more. They were the responders to the main actors and had to react to the main action of what was going on and if a song was to come on they would also have to do some dancing and singing.

The original Medea was a Greek play that was written by Euripedes and was made in 431 BCE. As a group, me and my class had to make a chorus piece to Medea for her speech. We done this by coming on stage, one by one and reacting as a group to what Medea was saying. We had to almost exaggerate our movements so the audience would understand the emotion of the play and how Medea was feeling at the time. It was important that we communicated with each other because we had to make sure that our movements that we made were synchronized. This is how we made sure that the narrative connected with it because if Medea was to talk about when she had ''long hair'' we would then touch our hair responding to her and so on.

The greek letter I was given to choreograph movements to before combining with the actors was ''Dear Jokasta''. Below is a copy of the letter:

''Dear Jokasta,

I'm writing to inform you about the quarrels taking place in Thebes. Kreon and Oedipus are at it again and I try to stop them from arguing but I am not  powerful. I know it must be hard as you love them both; your brother and husband mean a lot to you but you have the power to stop them from constantly bickering. All this arguing is not serving the state well.  Oedipus is very curious and will do anything to find out who killed the King. He's only young and needs someone to be there for him. Please visit us soon your Majesty.''

Brief summary of the letter:
This letter is about Jokasta who is Queen. She has a son called Oedipus who is now King. Oedipus is trying to find out who killed the King- Laius, who was Jokasta's first husband.

Ballet- Arabesque improvements

Arabesque position is sliding one leg to the front and lifting the back leg up. The back leg should have no wait put on it. Balance is very important when doing this because it has to weigh out on the standing leg.

We started of with arabesque second position. One thing I mostly need to improve on is my posture and balance because I keep losing my position and falling every time. I find it hard to have a straight posture while doing it as it makes it more harder for me to hold my position.

Also, I need to do more stretches that will help my leg go higher and look more like an arabesque position. The one thing I need to remember the most and do is to get into the habit of pointing my toes.
