Over the past few weeks, I have been involved in many different events which have given me an insight into a variety of professional practices and future progression opportunities. Below is the different types of events I took part in.
One of the first ones I went to was called ‘Inspiring Women in Dance’ event at Sadlers Wells- talking to/interviewing a wide range of women about their different carers in dance and what they involve.
I found this event really motivating and the women that stood out for me the most was the photographer. She has made me want to start taking photography courses outside of college and hopefully use it as a little hobby. I found it amazing how every single dancer said that dance wasn't a choice for them. They started young and so for them it was something that they always had done and always wanted to do.
The second one we went to was the Ipswich Tour- (Travelling/performing a set piece in a new space and environment/ adapting to this/ preparation and rehearsal. I found the Ipswich tour quite stressful and I felt unorganised. The only performance I'd say I enjoyed performing was with Panashe and Tashan when we had to perform our own musical performance. I learnt from this trip that you cant always expect the best. One of the hardest things for me was actually adapting to the stage and getting use to the space because when rehearsing I noticed that I kept bumping into people and some people were not using the space properly which made it look messy ect. I also found it hard because we hardly had time to rehearse anything which was stressing the whole group out and wasn't a good look at all. Coming towards the end when we performed I felt we did alright because we had our performance faces on.
The third event that we Visited was WAC- (discussion and q&a about their course and requirements/ observation of first and 3rd year student in rehearsal) This was a university and what we was doing was watching university students in rehearsals for there show that is coming up. I really liked the look of this university and the students seemed really friendly and hard working. After watching them rehearse, we went outside for a discussion with one of the teachers in the college and was told what it would take to become a student. She was saying how you don't need excellent technical skills, you just need to be hard working and have something unique about you, something that makes you stand out from others. I found this event really motivating and it actually made me have second thoughts about wanting to go to university.
The final event that we went to was The Vincent Dance Theatre workshop- (experiencing the range of stimuli and tools used to begin creating a new performance work/ contributing your ideas and viewpoints and creating responses) I found this workshop really interesting and I learnt a lot. I learnt that so many people get judged and get called names- but no matter what it will always be like that because as humans it is what we do. I loved the idea of them having different practical work on each table. I noticed that everyone was really interested and got involved in everything. One of the tables that I liked the most would be Burying something that I regret, with this I had to write on a piece of paper that I regret the most and bury it in the soil. I felt weight lifted off of my shoulders which was a nice feeling.
