The is 3 types of muscles:
- Cardiac- Pumps heart
- Involuntary/Smooth-Peristalsis system. Involuntary is when you have no control over muscles.
- Voluntary- Voluntary is when you have control over muscles.
Muscles only contract and release, they can not extend. When muscles contract, they become shorter and thicker. Muscles subscribe to the ''All or nothing'' law- this means that muscles can contact fully, or not at all.
Muscles have four different jobs:
- Agonist- Prime mover/ Contracting muscles (If a muscles contacts, the opposite muscle has to relax)
- Antogonist- Relaxing muscles
- Stabiliser- These are small muscles that stabilise the joints that helps keep alignment straight
- Fixater- The fixater allows you to dance accurately when doing the right movements.
Postral muscles:
This is mainly the biggest muscles that secures and holds you alignment and when used properly, it can prevent you from being tired and aching.
This means that you can't contract a little, you have to contract fully. However, to make a stronger contraction, you have to use more fibres.
